Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Building an inclusive government that reflects its community and a city where race is not a determinant of success.

Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

What we do

The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) works to remove barriers and expand access to services so that Philadelphia residents can thrive. Our focus has always been straightforward: making Philadelphia safer, cleaner, and more economically vibrant for every neighborhood. Equity is part of how we get that done.

Equity is not a standalone program, but a practical way to make sure that City resources reach every community. At the end of the day, residents want results they can see. That includes safer blocks, cleaner streets, and greater access to jobs and opportunities.

To achieve these goals, DEI focuses on these core priorities:

  • Building a workforce and a workplace culture that values inclusion at all levels.
  • Advancing practices that embed fairness and access in the City’s budgeting, community engagement, services, and key initiatives.
  • Promoting procurement, contracting, and entrepreneurship so that every person and business has a chance to grow.
  • Working with City departments, community partners, and other institutions to improve outcomes for all Philadelphians.
