Storefront Improvement Program

Helping business and property owners to upgrade their storefronts.

About

Business and property owners may be eligible to receive grant money for storefront improvements.

Examples of eligible improvements:

  • Masonry/brick pointing
  • Exterior painting
  • Windows/glazing
  • Exterior doors
  • Exterior facade lighting
  • See-through security grills
  • Signage and awnings
  • Cornices

The program can reimburse up to 50 percent of the cost of eligible improvements to a maximum of $10,000 for a single commercial property, or up to $15,000 for a multiple-address or corner business property.

The Storefront Improvement Program is a program of the Department of Commerce. Hear from local business owners about the importance of having a good storefront.

Process and eligibility

To participate, follow these steps.

Confirm your property's eligibility

To apply, your property must be on an approved corridor. A list of eligible blocks on commercial corridors can be found online here. For more information, email SIP@phila.gov.

Plan your project

If you need help applying, email SIP@phila.gov and you will be matched with a relationship manager. This person will be a City staff member or a representative from a neighborhood organization.

Your relationship manager will contact you directly. They will walk you through the process of applying for the Storefront Improvement Program.

Apply

After discussing improvements with your relationship manager, it’s time to apply. You can also apply without a relationship manager if you wish to do so.

Do not begin work on your storefront until you have received written approval from the City.
